Adult Education Skills Class Information (formerly called GED)
Our three skills classes and the transitions class have been designed to meet each student's academic needs. Whether you want your GED, are getting ready to go to college, looking for a better job or just want to brush up on specific skills, our classes will work for you. Our experienced instructors will assist you to learn at your own pace. Funded by Federal and State Grants are classes are free. You must attend orientation before entering our classes.
1. Beginning Education Skills
This class moves at a slower pace, teaching beginning skills in Math, English and Reading to help you develop a good base for future studies. The class meets on Monday and Wednesday throughout the school year
2. Intermediate Education Skills
Decimals, percents, pre-algebra and geometry along with sentence and paragraph structure prepare you for our advanced class. The class meets on Monday and Wednesday throughout the school year.
3. Advanced Education Skills
Algebra, Geometry and other math skills along with essay writing prepare you for the Official GED test. The class meets Tuesday and Thursday through the school year.
Students will be placed in a class after orientation and advance to higher classes as they accomplish their goals.
Morning classes meet from 9:00-11:30 am
Evening classes meet from 6:00-8:30 pm

ESOL Registration and Classes
Classes focus on improving English skills through reading, writing, speaking and listening classes Classes also provide instruction in grammar, conversation and civics. Beginning, intermediate and advanced levels of instruction are provided. All classes are individualized to meet each person's need.
Orientation and registration are held several times a year.
Classes meet at Shore Cultural Centre, 291 East 222nd Street, Euclid.

Orientations are held 3 times a year. September, January and March.
Official GED Practice Test
The Official Practice GED Test determines GED readiness. It takes approximately 4 1/2 hours to complete the practice test which covers all five test areas(writing skills, social studies, science, literature and math).
Individuals interested in taking the GED Practice Test are encouraged to attend an orientation as a "readiness indicator" for taking the GED Practice Test. Individuals scoring above the 10th grade level on the initial assessment may be eligible to take the Official GED Practice Test.

The Official GED Test is administered at Shore Cultural Center, 291 East 222nd Street, in room 133. It begins at 9:30 am and lasts until approximately 2:00 pm. The test is given in two parts - you must attend both Saturdays.
The Official GED test will be updated in January 2014. If you have not passed all tests in the current version, you must take the test before 2014 in order not to lose your test scores. Individuals taking the test in 2014 must start over and take the entire test. Call us at 216-797-2942 to sign up for classes to help you pass the test before 2014.
GED Age Restrictions
Students 16 and 17 years of age, accompanied by a parent or guardian, must bring high school withdrawal papers, and meet with the ABLE Director. Call 216-797-2942 for an appointment.
