Joffrey Jones, Superintendent |
Biography: I was born on Long Island, NY, and graduated in 1967 from Garden City High School to attend Ohio University. After four years, I graduated from OU with a BA in English. Substitute teaching in Parma was my first professional exposure to the classroom before being hired as full-time teacher in 1972. From 1972-1990, I taught English 7-12 in Parma where I also coached numerous junior high and high school athletes (football, baseball, track, and softball). I also served as English department chairman for seven years before I left for Mentor in 1990. In Mentor I spent five years as a school administrator serving as both a high school unit principal and a junior high principal. My last seven years in Mentor I held the position of assistant superintendent.
I am proud that my wife Sharon is a 30-year veteran teacher of English and currently serves the Parma City School District as Supervisor of Staff Development. She keeps me well-reminded and thoroughly-grounded in the magical importance of the teacher-student relationship as it positively affects academic achievement. Our only child Brandon graduated with honors from Harvard University in 2000 where he majored in American and English Literature and Language. He is currently the national field director for SAT and ACT programs for Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions working and living in Manhattan.
