Utilities
The school district struggles just as you do to manage the cost of utilities. Natural gas, electricity and water are no longer minor expenditures. We're doing what we can to manage our $2,000,000.00 annual bills.
The good news is that we're having some successes and some long range victories. Investing recently in energy efficient fluorescent lighting and electronic ballasts has a rapid payback - about 3 years. The payback for low volume water in commodes and urinals is about eight years.
One of our buildings, Central Middle School, has earned the distinction of receiving the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star label. This is no small feat. It means that Central consumes 35% less energy than similar buildings! There are only 3 schools in Ohio with the Energy Star Label and we can be proud and thankful for our attentive staff. There are 80 schools nationwide to receive this Award in 2007.
