New Schools Update
April 17, 2012
The excitement in the Euclid City School District is building, as the four new elementary schools are beginning to take shape. Solid structures have emerged from the ground and progress is evident as the brick finish, windows and shingled roofing mark the final phase of the exteriors. The buildings have great aesthetic appeal, with Shoreview implementing some pieces of history from Upson. Six medallions were molded into the exterior brick work on the west side of the new Shoreview building as a memorial to the past and wonderful experiences shared by those who ever entered Upson's doors. Arbor has a very unique feature, as space for a future green roof has been installed within the courtyard. One day it would be great to see the students planting and caring for a garden from which fresh fruits and vegetables could be grown for the school cafeteria. At Bluestone, a stamped concrete walkway is featured within the courtyard with beautiful landscaping. A memorial has also been erected in front of the school that will uniquely identify Bluestone and will serve as a tribute to Thomas Jefferson. Finally the Chardon Hills site will feature playing fields, green space and a beautiful campus feel as it will sit on a picturesque lot in a park like setting. Chardon Hills will also serve as the magnet school for the District.
Certainly with the wonderful weather we have had during this past winter, the construction crews have been able to make up time from the equally lousy fall and late summer of 2011. We expect to open all the new buildings this fall as the transformation of our elementary schools will be complete. The buildings will feature state of the art technology, energy efficient equipment and a safe and secure environment for our students to make outstanding strides in their education. The students, staff and faculty could not be more excited about our future new homes. We hope the community shares in our excitement and optimism for our students' futures. We invite one and all to tour our future new schools as we will be offering open tours to the community in May. On Saturday, May 5th we will open Chardon Hills (Glenbrook) from 9:00-11:00am. On that same Saturday, Arbor (Roosevelt) will be open for tours from 12:00-2:00. The following week, May 12th, Shoreview (Upson) will be open from 9:00-11:00am and Bluestone (Thomas Jefferson) will be open from 12:00-2:00. Come meet the men and women who are responsible for the projects, as representatives from the architect and construction manager will be leading the tours. During this time we will also offer guided tours through the current buildings. Please join us in saying hello to the new buildings and goodbye to the old.
It is an exciting time for the District. We look forward to this transformation marking a new beginning in Excellent Education for the Euclid City School District.
