Know your Board of Education: Angela Lisy

January is National School Board Recognition Month! Euclid Schools’ Board of Education Members are dedicated parents, friends, community members and so much more. We sat down and asked them a few questions. School Board Member Angela Mavrich Lisy has been involved with Euclid Schools as a parent since 1995 and was elected to the Board of Education in November of 2005 (began serving in January of 2006).

1.) What are you most looking forward to in 2017?
“I am most looking forward to the planning and execution of our “Finish the Job” building project. We have already started off 2017 with a public work session in collaboration with Euclid City Council, the Mayor and several of the city directors. This work session is just the first of many collaborations between the city and the school district to ensure our buildings and renovation project offers something to every member of our Euclid Community.”

2.) What is your favorite restaurant in Euclid?
“Our family’s favorite restaurant is the Beachclub Pizza Bistro with Paragon Wines + Martinis + Plates at a close second.”

3.) What is your educational background?
“I hold a BA in Chemistry and Mathematics from Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania, and an MS in Macromolecular Science and Engineering from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Currently, I work as a Senior Research Scientist at Orbital Research, Inc., where I work on testing and commercializing dry physiological sensors for a variety of bio-potential monitoring applications. I also work with our Aerospace Engineering department where I apply polymer coating techniques to encapsulate configurable guidance sensor suites to survive high-g environments.”

4.) Why did you send your kids to Euclid Schools?
“My husband and I have always been and will continue to be advocates for public education. We send our children to Euclid Schools because of the excellent opportunities they receive in terms of technology, academic programming and the rigor of the many college preparatory classes. The Euclid Schools offer a real-world environment that will enable our children to develop life skills that will prepare them to be well adjusted, civically active adults.”

5.) Why did you want to be a School Board Member?
“My desire is to serve and support our students and district in a way that increases opportunities and improves the overall quality of education for our community.”
