EUCLID, Ohio—The Euclid Board of Education tonight officially hired a new school superintendent for the 2018-2019 school year, Mr. Marvin B. Jones, II. Mr. Jones will begin his contract July 1, 2018.
In early March, Dr. Charles Smialek notified the Board that he was leaving the district at the end of the school year. The Board of Education immediately began an extensive search for a new Superintendent. The District held a focus group and conducted an online survey to identify community expectations for the new leader. There were nearly 500 survey and focus group participants. Based on community input, a job description was created and widely distributed. In all, eighteen candidates applied, eight were interviewed in person and ultimately two finalists interviewed and met with staff, local community leaders and with the Board of Education. The Board of Education then deliberated and voted in a public board meeting.
“Mr. Jones comes to us with a dynamic skill set that we are sure will have an impact on our District’s culture and achievement,” says Board President, Donna Sudar, “the entire Board is excited to work with Marvin to move our Euclid Schools forward.”

Jones, “there is so much passion and expertise that currently resides within the community and school district there is no doubt in my mind that we, together, are going to do some amazing things for our students and families as we relentlessly pursue excellence.”
Mr. Jones began his career in 2001 teaching middle school science. Since then, he has served in administrative capacities including curriculum supervisor, Dean of Students, Athletic Director, Middle School Principal, Exploratory Principal, Director of Middle Schools, Alternative Education, and Hearing Officer. Currently, Mr. Jones is currently the Director of Secondary Education, Alternative Education and Hearing Officer for the Springfield City School District. The school district serves approximately 8,000 students.
Mr. Jones earned his undergraduate degree from Tennessee State University, his master’s in education from Marygrove College will earn his Ph.D. from the University of Dayton this May. He completed his principal licensure program at Wright State University and his superintendent licensure program at The University of Dayton.
Marvin is married to Kanika and they have four children Kaitlynn (11), Myles (10), Madison (6) and Kaeden (5).
