Weekly Callout - July 31

The Weekly Callout

I created the Weekly Callout to keep you informed about how we're preparing Euclid's children for success. The purpose is so you can learn more about the wonderful initiatives and programs going on around the district.

Christopher Papouras, Superintendent

On July 30, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health recommended that schools return remotely for the Fall, citing increasing cases and COVID-19 positivity rates here in our county.  Our Board, teachers, and administrators have worked tirelessly over the summer to prepare a hybrid-return plan that addresses our student and family needs.  However, with the Board of Health issuing the recommendation, we will alter our plans and have our students learn at-home in a virtual environment for at least the first marking period - October 16th

All families, even those who did not sign up for the Euclid Virtual Learning Academy will now participate in virtual learning for at least the first marking period.

The Board of Health also recommended “discontinuing extracurriculars such as sports, band, theater, choir and other activities during the remote learning period” to prevent the spread of the virus.  We will also abide by that recommendation and we are stopping practices, games, and activities immediately.

In a recent community survey, our parents shared with us the importance of learning in buildings. We know firsthand that direct in-person interaction is best for learning and socialization, but the health of our students, families, and staff is our top priority.  We have been preparing for the possibility of virtual learning for months, and we are confident our dedicated teachers will provide quality virtual education for our students.

This school year, we will provide iPads to all K-5 students and chromebooks to all 6-12 students to better facilitate learning at home. We are currently working with community partners to provide internet hot-spot access to those in need - and we expect to share more in the very near future.

We are reviewing the best way we can provide quality career-tech education. We will provide our families with updates in this area moving forward.

We are in this together.  Please stay safe and healthy Euclid.  We know you will continue doing your part to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
