At Bluestone Elementary, students are already beginning to think about their futures in meaningful and engaging ways through the school’s Career Speaker Series. This ongoing initiative continues to connect students with professionals from a wide range of fields, giving them valuable insight into potential career paths.
What makes this series especially unique is that it is entirely student-led. Students take ownership of the experience by researching each guest and their career, developing thoughtful questions and leading the conversations themselves. This approach not only builds engagement, but also helps students develop important academic and life skills.
This week’s speakers brought a diverse set of experiences to Bluestone. Students had the opportunity to hear from Cleveland Cavaliers in-arena announcer Ahmaad Crum, Euclid Hospital physical therapist Patricia Sulzmann, and Dr. Lucia Johnson of VIP Smiles. Each speaker shared their personal journey, offered advice and provided a glimpse into the day-to-day realities of their professions.
Through these conversations, the students gain career awareness, but they also learn how to conduct research, ask purposeful and meaningful questions, and engage in professional dialogue. The experience also helps them practice their public speaking skills, builds confidence and encourages critical thinking.
In many ways, the Career Speaker Series mirrors real-world experiences students will encounter in the future. From preparing for interviews to engaging with professionals, the students are strengthening skills that will serve them well into the future.
The enthusiasm from both students and guest speakers has made the series a standout experience at Bluestone. With each session, students are becoming more confident, curious and prepared for their futures.
