Students at Chardon Hills STEM School had the opportunity to explore a world of career possibilities this week during the school’s annual Career Day, organized by the Chardon Hills College and Career Committee. The event, titled “Passport to Success,” brought professionals from across the area together to help students learn about a wide range of careers and the pathways that lead to them.

Throughout the day, classes rotated through the gym where each guest professional hosted a booth representing their career or organization. Students were given a career passport, which they filled out as they visited each station, asked questions, and learned about different professions. As students explored the booths, presenters stamped their passports, creating a fun and engaging way for students to track their journey through the fair.

More than twenty-five professionals volunteered their time to share their experiences and provide insights into their careers. The event featured representatives from a variety of fields including public safety, healthcare, engineering, architecture, real estate, finance, education, and the arts. Students had the chance to meet professionals from organizations such as the Euclid Police Department, Euclid Fire Department, University Hospitals, Progressive Insurance, Lincoln Electric, Quaker Houghton, the Euclid Public Library, and the City of Cleveland EMS.

Local community leaders and partners also participated, including Euclid Board of Education member Selina Wright, who shared her work as a social worker with Cuyahoga County Job and Family Services, and Judge Ryan of the 8th District Court of Appeals, who spoke with students about careers in law and public service.

Many presenters brought interactive displays, equipment, and demonstrations to help students better understand their professions. Others shared stories from their own career journeys, offering advice and encouragement to students as they begin thinking about their future goals.

Students also had the opportunity to learn about creative and entrepreneurial careers, including art, photography, real estate, counseling, chiropractic care, and financial services. Euclid’s own Career Technical Education program was represented as well, with students from Euclid High School and the Memorial Options Center demonstrating skills in shampooing and braiding as part of the district’s career tech offerings.

Events like Career Day help students begin connecting classroom learning to real-world opportunities. By hearing directly from professionals and asking questions about their work, students gain a better understanding of the many different paths available to them.

Thanks to the dedication of the Chardon Hills College and Career Committee and the many community partners who volunteered their time, students left the event with a broader perspective on the possibilities that lie ahead—and perhaps a few new ideas about where their own “passport to success” might take them.
