A three-student team from the EHS Fire Academy traveled to Atlanta, Georgia in late June to compete at the SkillsUSA National Competition.

SkillsUSA is a career and technical student organization serving more than 395,000 high school, middle school and college students in addition to professional members enrolled in training programs in trade, technical and skilled service occupations (including health occupations). Euclid High School is also one of only seven schools in Ohio to achieve "Gold" chapter status.

The three-student team of Najm C., Arthur H. and Brianna O. competed in the Career Pathway Showcase competition and earned the right to compete nationally by winning first place at the Skills Ohio competition in Columbus, OH in April.

The Career Pathway Showcase competition is meant to encourage career technical students to develop a project that will benefit their school, industry or community with a focus on their career preparation program. They then develop a display to use in their community to explain the project, their studies, and its benefits.

The team's project, entitled "Cancer in the Fire Service," dealt with the deadly carcinogens that firefighters face in their job, including how cancer-causing chemicals can hide on fire gear and the health dangers faced because of exposure to these chemicals. The team met with judges throughout the day, explaining their project and how it met the criteria of the contest.
