Board Meeting Breakdown

The Euclid Board of Education met on September 13, 2023, in the Auditorium at the Euclid High School at 7:00 pm.

The meeting was called to order at 7:06 pm by Board President Kathy DeAngelis, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

All Board Members were present.

The Board reviewed and accepted the agenda for the evening. 

The Board adopted the minutes for the August 9th, 21st, 23rd and 29th 2023 Board Meetings.

Euclid Schools Human Resources Director Jacqueline Sturm recognized the teachers and administrators who were hired over the summer and new to the District.

Following the new staff recognition, the Board approved two proclamations. The first approved making the week of October 9th - 13th National School Lunch Week while the second proclamation named the week of October 16th - 20th National School Bus Safety Week.

There were no visitor comments.

Reports and Recommendations of the Treasurer

  • This portion of the meeting covered the financial data of the district. Euclid Schools Treasurer Steve Vasek led the Board Members through District Financial Statements.

  • The Board approved the Financial Data report for August 2023 and approved payments.

  • The Board accepted a donation from the Kaska Family in honor of Bob Kaska, benefitting the Urban Agriculture Career Tech program.

Reports and Recommendations of the Superintendent

  • Personnel

    • The Board approved changes to Certified and Classified personnel in the form of resignations, terminations, retirements, permanent substitute appointments, non-teaching appointments, non-teaching assignments extra duty, athletic duty, athletic duty resignations

  • Contracts/Agreements

    • The Board approved a contract with Maxim Healthcare Staffing Services to provide supplemental healthcare staffing for the school year.

  • Routine Business

    • The Board approved agreements with the following groups in a consent agenda, meaning that these agreements are all typical and annual agreements.

      • PSI Service Agreements for Benedictine HS and St. Agatha-St. Aloysius to provide Title I teacher services.

      • Making a Difference Consulting, LLC to provide a School Behavioral Health and Wellness Specialist for Euclid High School.

      • OhioGuidestone to provide a School Behavioral Health and Wellness Specialist for Euclid Middle School.

      • Step Forward (Head Start) to provide technical, educational and professional childcare services at the ELV to families and children participating in the Head Start program.

      • Bellfaire JCB to provide special education and related services for students for the 2023-2024 school year.

  • Miscellaneous

    • The Board approved a motion declaring transportation impractical for a student attending a school outside of the normal transportation radius. Rather than transporting the student, the District will offer payment in lieu of transportation.

    • The Board accepted several donations of school supplies from Furniture Warehouse Ohio, Dr. Sazima, Khalilah Heard, Kathy Bartram, and the family of Caroline Montoya.

  • Policies

    • The Board approved the revision of board policies regarding Web Accessibility, Content, Apps and Services; Student Technology, Acceptable Use and Safety; Staff Technology, Acceptable Use and Safety; and Information Management.

Superintendent’s Informal

  • Superintendent Papouras reminded families about the upcoming Fathers Walk on September 21st.

  • He also reminded faculty and staff about the Euclid Schools Foundation Grant Application which closes on September 15th.

  • He outlined the new “Gameday Guidelines” for attendance at Euclid High School Football games for students.

  • He acknowledged that the new State Report Card will be released in the coming days.

Board Member’s Informal

  • Kathy DeAngelis thanked everyone for a smooth start to the school year and thanked Governor DeWine for visiting the ELV. She also stated how impressed she was with the students during the Governor’s visit.

New Business

  • The Board approved a settlement agreement between the District and a former teacher.

  • The Board entered into an executive session at 7:46 pm
