July 23, 2025, Euclid, Ohio - The Euclid School Board of Education and Superintendent Chris Papouras jointly announce the approval of a new employment contract, effective August 1, 2025. This contract designates the 2025-2026 school year as Papouras' final year as superintendent, during which he will continue to lead the district's ongoing growth and transformation while committing to a seamless transition to new leadership.
The agreement underscores the Board's commitment to maintaining stability, fostering effective communication, and ensuring the continued development, supervision, and operation of school programs and facilities. As part of the contract, Papouras will provide assistance to an incoming superintendent during a designated transition period.
"Under Superintendent Papouras' leadership, the Euclid City School District has achieved remarkable milestones that have positioned our district for sustained success," said Euclid School Board President Gabrielle Kelly. "This contract allows us to build on that momentum while planning thoughtfully for the future. We are grateful for his dedication and look forward to a smooth transition that benefits our students, staff, and community. As Chris concludes his Euclid leadership, we wish him the best in his future endeavors after retirement.”
When Papouras began his tenure as Superintendent, the district faced threats of state takeover and organizational audits. Today, the district stands stable, competitive, and focused on empowering every student's agency and growth.
In reflecting on his tenure as superintendent, Papouras highlighted some of the district's significant accomplishments, which have laid a strong foundation for future progress:
State Report Card Improvement: For the first time in recent memory, Euclid Schools earned a three-star rating on the Ohio State Report Card, meeting state academic expectations.
Academic Watch List Removal: All schools, as of last school year, have been removed from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce’s (DEW) academic watch list.
Momentum Award Recognition: The district was one of only 42 in Ohio to receive the DEW’s Momentum Award for substantial improvements in Growth Progress and Academic Achievement.
Graduation Rate Gains: A 11.5% increase in the four-year graduation rate since the Class of 2020, including a 7.6% improvement for Students with Disabilities.
Recognition for Excellence: Annually earned the District Recognition Award for implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
During Papouras' tenure as superintendent, the Euclid City School District has emerged as a leader in Ohio for implementing the Science of Reading and Explicit Instruction. His vision has driven the establishment of innovative programs and facilities, including the Memorial Options Center, the Early Learning Village Redesign, Chardon Hills STEM School, and the Euclid Virtual Learning Academy. Additionally, the district has developed a comprehensive continuum of services for special learners, particularly supporting students with autism or emotional disturbance at Indian Hills and Bluestone schools.
"I am honored to continue serving Euclid City Schools during this pivotal period of growth and transformation," said Papouras. "Our shared accomplishments demonstrate what it means to be 'One Euclid' united in our dedication to students and families. I am deeply grateful to our teachers, support staff, and administrators whose tireless commitment makes our progress possible. As I look at retirement, I am committed to ensuring a seamless transition, supporting my successor, and leaving the district stronger than when I started."
Before becoming Superintendent in 2019, Papouras served his alma mater in multiple roles, including Elementary Assistant Principal, Middle School Assistant Principal, Elementary Principal, and Assistant Superintendent. He is now entering his 17th year with Euclid Schools and has been a part of the Euclid community for nearly six decades.
The Board and Papouras emphasize that this school year will enable the district to maintain its positive trajectory while prioritizing a thoughtful leadership transition. The Board will soon announce information regarding the new superintendent search.
