Newly inducted National Honor Society Members

Euclid High School celebrated academic achievement, leadership, and service on Thursday evening as 19 students were officially inducted into the school’s National Honor Society chapter during a formal ceremony attended by students, families, and staff.

The National Honor Society recognizes high school students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Membership is awarded through a selective process that evaluates not only a student’s academic record but also their involvement in school activities, their contributions to the community, and the integrity they display in their daily lives.

The ceremony began with opening remarks from longtime NHS advisor Mr. Ron Zucca, who welcomed guests and spoke about the accomplishments of the new inductees. Mr. Zucca explained the purpose and values of the National Honor Society while highlighting the character and leadership potential of the students being recognized.

“These are the students that I hope someday move on to my street,” Mr. Zucca said. “They’re leaders and will be great neighbors.”

Mr. Zucca also described the tradition of the ceremony itself, noting that the induction is intentionally solemn and respectful, with the program largely organized and led by the students who are members of the chapter.

Following Mr. Zucca’s introduction, NHS President Jamiya Atkins formally began the ceremony. She welcomed the audience and spoke about the purpose of the National Honor Society before introducing the four core pillars that guide the organization.

Along with Vice President Demiyah Beverly and Secretary Anthony Perkins, Jamiya helped lead the candle lighting ceremony, a central part of the induction tradition. Each student officer explained one of the organization’s pillars while lighting a candle to represent scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

After the candle lighting ceremony, the induction of the new members began. Each student was invited to the front of the room to sign the official membership book, receive a certificate of induction, and have their National Honor Society cord placed on their shoulders.

The moment marked the official transition of the students into membership in the chapter and symbolized their commitment to uphold the values of the organization.

Once all 19 students had been inducted, both current and new members stood together to recite the National Honor Society pledge, affirming their dedication to maintaining the principles that define the organization.

Assistant Superintendent Tim Rosenbaum delivered the evening’s keynote address, standing-in for Superintendent Papouras, offering encouragement to the newly inducted students as they continue their academic and personal journeys.

“As you move forward, I encourage you to continue giving the world your very best, your scholarship, your leadership, your service, and your character,” Rosenbaum said. “When you do that, you will not only shape your own future, but you will also strengthen our schools, our community, and the world around you.”

Rosenbaum also reminded students and their families to take pride in the dedication that led to this milestone.

“You and your families should take great pride in this recognition,” he said. “But perhaps even more importantly, you should be proud of the effort, determination, and integrity that brought you to this moment.”

Euclid High School Principal Corey Russell delivered closing remarks, connecting the pillars of the National Honor Society with the R Factor and the culture playbook that guide the school community. He also recognized the important role that families and supporters have played in helping students reach this achievement.

The ceremony concluded with an invitation for guests to remain for refreshments and fellowship, giving families, students, and staff the opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of the newest members of the Euclid High School National Honor Society.

The induction of these 19 students continues a tradition of recognizing individuals who strive for excellence both in the classroom and in service to their community. As members of the National Honor Society, these students will continue to lead by example while contributing to the positive culture of Euclid High School.
